As you might expect, there are no pages linking to this site, and so the only referrers are internal. However, in the logs, there is a referral from a site that I had visited in the same browser window, prior to typing the url of the site in question into the address bar.
I'm using Mozilla Firebird, but I have a vague recollection of seeing something similar in IE at some point...I assume that this is a bug in how the browser passes the referrer to the web server, as I can't see how it would have cropped up otherwise.
To add to my confusion, this has only happened once, and I am unable to recreate the same effect.
Any ideas on how/why this might have ocurred? To me it represents something of a security risk for urls with passwords in them etc.
Thanks for any suggestions. If anyone knows where I can find some good information about http_referer and when it is sent and not sent that would also be appreciated - I struggled to find anything about the subject.
