Is there any way of getting a new window to open to the maximum width and height of the screen without javascript please?

I don't think that there is a way to do that without javascript. I haven't seen anything like what you are asking.

Though I suppose you want to launch a web-page in full-screen.
I must say I usually hate web-sites doing this as I lose control of my browser/computer this way. There are certain cases where I can live with this, if there is a good reason to do it. For example to lauch a picture gallery or something like that, though still even in that case I would prefer the web-master not to mess with my browser. I can always press F11 if I want to get rid of window chrome.
