Web Tv Options

Is there anyone besides MSN TV?

I am trying to set up internet access for my wife. She is disabled and bedridden. Working a PC is very difficult for her. A web tv service seems to be the best option. Yet, MSN TV seems to be the only option... :-(

Any ideas?

WebTV (MSNTV) is OK. I had one a few years back. The 'Plus" model enables switching back and forth from TV to Web. Internet is very slow however and some amenities are limited. You can reduce you monthly service fees by about half if you subscribe to an independent ISP that supports WebTV.

If I remember correctly, AOL had a version out, and of course some of the set-top game boxes will also connect. Might try searching for "internet appliances" or "set top boxes."

AOL-TV was discontinued several years ago.

Where abouts do you live? MSN-TV (and most other internet television services) are only availible in certain countries.

I wouldn't be so sure a TV based system using a remote is the best solution for someone with disabilities.

Try using the webtv simulator [developer.msntv.com] (or msn tv viewer [developer.msntv.com]) to see what I mean. It mangles most sites and I think it makes it considerably harder to browse websites for several reasons.

That being said, the Netgem Iplayer browser [endpoint.freeserve.co.uk] for tv's looks rather interesting as it runs linux and has a usb port that can allow it to connect to ethernet.
