OE6 and IE6 Problem

Cannot Set OE6 as Default Mail and News Handler

This morning I found that I could no longer access OE6 by clicking on the
Mail button in the IE6 Toolbar.Under Internet Options>Programs the drop-dowm
menu for HTML Editor contains 'Notepad' but all the rest are now blank. At
the bottom under Default Messaging Programs. It reads 'Application is no
longer default Mail and News handler'.If I change that to be ' Application
IS the Default Mail and News handler' then the next time I open IE I get a
message that 'Internet Explorer is not the default browser and would I like
to make it so'.If I do so then when I go back to OE I am told that OE is no
longer the default browser and so on round and round. If I set OE as the default handler and then immediately check back I find it is no longer set as such so I assume the problem lies there-but I could be wrong.
I did use AdAware to remove 4 items of malware yesterday, one of which was
described as being a possible browser hijacker.Could this be the source of
the problem and is there a solution? Any advice gratefully received.

I use adaware to remove spyware and never had any problems with legit programs that stopped working.
Using a registry cleaner however, I've had to reinstall programs.

At this link, there's: "Repair or Reinstall Internet Explorer6 and Outlook Express 6"

Thanks.Your link to www.theeldergeeks.com gave me the solution although the registry fixes there are written specifically for WinXP and I have WinMe.However I was able to make a slight adjustment and all is now well. Thanks again.
