Custom redirect to Homepage

I've noticed that WW uses a custom redirect back to their hompeage. I currently have a custom 404 redirect page, but it's a generic template page (full with complete navigation) - i.e. errorpage.html. Would it be wiser to change the error page to my index page?

Hi,

I use the custom 404 to my advantage concerning bots. I make it a text based site mapped crafted to feed them. I also use this for surfers. If they came to a page that does not exsist I want to present my site to them in whole.
