I have a site with a little movie clip in wmv format, and I checked my site with all the other browsers (other than IE) and found that I get a page of code show up when the link is clicked in Netscape, I get the media player spawned with Opera but it downloads it and you can only hear the sound of the clip with no video. Should I also offer the clip in QT (mov) format or is there a way to fix it? Also, is Mozilla the same as Netscape? it sure looks the same.
Thanks for any help
Smokey

It sounds like you do not have the right MIME type set on the server. Ask your server administrator to see if .wmv files as well as .asf files are associated with "video/x-ms-wmv."

I'd also suggest using MPEG-2 (.mpg) as a more universal format than either .wmv or .mov (or, for that matter, .rm).

Unfortunately this is a little site (my sons) set up in a bit of freespace, so it's impossible to get any help from the administrators unless you pay a £ a minute. The file works perfectly with IE so the problem must lie with the browser (surely). I noticed that Opera opened the file but renamed it something obscure; like OP50000.wmv when it's actually called "clip1.wmv". The reason I have used wmv, is that it compressed a low rez mpg (1.1mb) to 186kb and I can't see anything competing with that kind of compression, not even rm. Which is the safest format to encode video for cross browser usage?
Thanks
