Here's a quicky

What table width would be optimal for 800x600?

I want to find out the consensus here before I fix (rather reluctantly) the width on the HTML templates.

Would you say about 760 was right - taking into account scroll bars and ms toolbar, or would you go lower to be more comfortable?

I want as little space left as possible.

i tend to go for 740 and live with a little bit at the edge, just to be safe.

Thanks Ben - I dont have the toolbar so was estimating it.

Had just had an e-mail of a mate. He said that 740 was an exact fit.

This will give you all the numbers you want:

Thanks Macro

A good resource. I am surprised that there was no mention of the MS toolbar anywhere on the page though? I see a lot of users with it here - some dont know how to turn it off or even edit it and it is installed as standard accross the institution! I have even seen one user who had dragged it 1/4 way across the page by accident and was working happily with only 75% of his screen.I thought it would be rude to mention it so left him to it :)

Hi -
I like to put table widths at 95%, which (hopefully) copes with many screen resolutions, as well as allowing for browser windows not set at "Full Screen". This works fine with most content, and allows a constantly proportioned page.

Thanks Ryhs

I usually use liquid design as well - but in this case I have to fix the width. It is a e-mail newsletter and I need it to display on all (well most) e-mail clients at an exact width.

It is a e-mail newsletter

in that case id go smaller - maybe 600 or even less. email clients seem to take up a lot of space with menus etc, and personally i almost never maximise outlook

Good tip ben

I tested on Yahoo, Outlook, Route400, eudora & hotmail and 600 was ok on a screen res of 800x600 -

740 was a little too large
