So, what would we consider to be "standard" fonts

bit off the wall here, but bear with me...

So, I'm wondering what fonts we would collectively expect to find in the default install set for the "lowest common denominator" surfer?

Theres some obvious ones, Arial, Helvetica, TNR, Courier New, Verdana, but what about the rest? What about Mac users, do they have an extended basic set, or more or less the same as PC users?

I'm afraid I don't usually take any chances and just go with boring old:

arial,verdana,helvetica,sans-serif

and

verdana,helvetica,arial,sans-serif

That's the "classic" list. Are there any more that you can reasonably rely on to be present on a user machine?

This is a helpful survey on available font for all platforms

[codestyle.org...]

Although somewhat unreliable since it is based on self assesment and I fail to believe that Arial Black beats Arial on Windows.

Does that fall under "unix" in the CodeStyle list for the purposes of this discussion?
