AOL8 and pop-ups

Anyone use AOL8 who can help us?

The site I work on for a living has a pop-up media player. It's spawned by a user deliberately clicking on a "listen now" link (and never comes unannounced).

I'm getting a suspiciously high amount of AOL users saying they're trying to listen and nothing happens. Now, I don't know whether this means they're having problems with their media player, or whether they can't see the pop-up player, and I do worry that some users with pop-up blockers can't use this area of the site.

If you run AOL8 with the pop-up blocker turned on, I'd really appreciate it if you'd help. Probably best is if you sticky me so I can send you a link, rather than post a link here and incur the wrath of the moderators!

Thanks in advance for any help; I'll of course report back for the archive.

I ran a test a number of months back on various pop-up blockers, and at that time AOL8 did not block new windows spawned by a link clicked by the user. Unfortunately I cannot test right now to see if anything's changed since that test.

Is it possible to stream the media player without a pop-up? I see a lot of sites that use Windows Media Player and when you click 'play' it plays right on the webpage.

Or maybe you could use frames instead of pop-ups?

Frames and in-page ones are fine, but that means you can't use your browser for anything else.

Still looking for an AOL8 user...
