In today’s Sunday NY Times a interview with Bill G [nytimes.com] tells us how well his software performed during this last virus outbreak.

He places the blame on people not keeping up with m$ patches and seems to be suggesting that in the future not updating will not be an option for a user.

A. Understand there have actually been fixes for all of these things before the attack took place. The challenge is that we've got to get the fixes to be automatically applied without our customers having to make a special effort.

Thanks Bill, That really comforts me knowing you want to take such good care of me. I get all warm and fuzzy just thinking about it.

He basically wants to own peoples computers, installing software and making changes as he pleases. It might earn OSS some new converts in the corporate world, especially where financial data and trade secrets are handled.

I have to say, I didn't bother downloading the patch, nor did I have any real intention of doing so.

More recently I keep getting this instant message saying that my "version of MSN Messenger rquires an immediate security update". Heh, I use Gaim anyway, which I'm pretty sure is more secure that any official MSN/Windows Messenger with any security update.
