webcam like messenger webcam

Hi, i recently discovered the webcam on messenger, it's free and pretty neat.
Now, I want to add such a service to my site, i want people to see each other if they want that.
Where do i start, what software do i use, what does it cost, is this possible with php alone?

Just to get things clear: would step 1 be the uploading of a webcam image from the visitor's PC to your server?

yes, but of course only when the user wants to do so.
I'm afraid i'm have to compile an exe file to do this.
have any tips/libraries/php scripts that i should look at?

i could of course tell them to use msn messenger, but i cannot/wil not reveil email adresses from the database for privacy/security reasons.
