What a great start to the bank holiday!
My ie 5.5 will not display any images. When I click on show picture the image appears!
I have run the repair tool from windows and DOS but no change. It just seems to display a very basic font justified to the left. I have re-installed it but it still won't work.
Any ideas please I can't see my sites properly.
Cheers

Install Netscape....then your IE problems will seem insignificant ;)

Alternatively, and highly recommended is the power switch!

Have you checked that the checkbox to show images in the internet options is activated?

I have been to M$oft site help pages(pointless)

Strange. Does that happen on all sites? And do you need to keep 5.5 or would an upgrade to 6 be an option?

Yes it applies to all sites except offline page views.
An upgrade to ie6 would be great but i have a super slow dial up and it would take nearly a year to download it.
thanks

Get HijackThis! or BHODemon (small, free downloads) and make sure you don't have some kind of spyware / scumware infesting your IE...sounds like that might be the problem since it works fine in offline mode...just a guess though.

Have you tried to search your system for bugware, for known datamining, aggressive advertising or tracking components? You can dowload a free standard scanner Ad-Aware via the website of Lavasoft (http://www.lavasoftusa.com), 1.7 MB.

I also just found this article about the problem from MS:

What version do you have? 7.x won't have any problems with form objects -- 6.1/6.2 shouldn't do, but 4.x and 6.0 might.

It just seems to display a very basic font justified to the left.

That's a clue that the problem is more than images -- IE is also having trouble with external files of any kind, such as css.

I wish I had an answer for this -- I'm having the same problem with Internet Explorer 6 and it makes life difficult when testing my sites. However, in my case the browser gets fixed when I reboot, although temporarily. Sooner or later the problem comes back.

I suspect a conflict with other software - perhaps something that taps IE6 or perhaps another browser, and perhaps even my Norton A-V. At any rate, I've suffered it for months and I hope this thread uncovers a new direction to try.

Thanks people. I have only just been able to get back online. Turns out some nice person stuffed my pc up with scumware. My version of adaware didn't find it!
Still can't get ie to work so gone with netscape.
Thanks again

IS Netscape really a good choice at the end of the day...? Have you thought about using Win Opera or perhaps another third party browser with IE embedded just to see if that helps in anyway (I doubt it) Anyways just i thought in my tired state

Maybe your cache is full? Try to clean it.
