New Favicon Behavior?

I always thought the favicon.ico was a great idea, but Microsoft's implementation was rather capricious. The biggest problem was that once a user cleared their temp files, favicons were lost. Hence, their effect was typically short-lived.

I've noticed that on at least one of my PCs running IE 6, the favicons appear to have resurrected themselves - sites I bookmarked ages ago are now sporting icons. Is this some kind of new, improved favicon handling or just a weird quirk on my PC?

Probably just a quirk. I still can't get the favicons to work right! Work pretty good in Opera - although it chokes me to say it.
