I noticed that I have bookmarks to sites that I never bookmarked, and only I have access to my computer.

I assume automatic bookmarking is possible, but how is it done.

People that visit my site are very targeted, and I don't think they will mind having an automatic bookmark to my site.

And the way i figure it, I will gain more business from the people that wants to visit our site again but forgot our url, than from the people that carefully manages their bookmarks and say hey whats going on here, Im never going to buy from them.

I would not like to link to a site that is doing something immoral like 'automatic bookmarking'. What do you think will happen when 50% of the sites you visit on one day will do this? It means you have to clean up every so many days your list, so you can find back those you really want.

If you really want to know how, here it is:

<body onLoad="if(document.all) window.external.AddFavorite(window.document.location,window.document.title)">

But this still has to ask you if you want to bookmark the site. I'm not sure what's going on with your computer... you might want to try spybot search and destroy to remove any spyware/malware from your computer.

IE is particularly susceptible to being hacked and having a bookmark created by stealth (that is, even without user OK) - it's one on a list of reasons why I only use IE for testing purposes.

One time, very long ago, when I just started to use Internet. It was around 97... I think I had Inernet Explorer 4 back then, not sure. I visited one site and it created a *whole folder* in my favourites with a link to each section of a site in this folder and the folder also had customized icons...

That was so wierd.

Try updating your IE.

And ya, I agree with everyone, this is not the way to go. Automatic bookmarking is dirty.

I've had this happen to me before as well.

This one has to be even worse:

When you visit a site it automatically changes your HOMEPAGE to some page filled with ad's and popups.

I don't use IE so I've never experienced it. I'm guessing it's activeX.

Try going to Tools > Internet Options > Security > Custom Level then tick "Prompt" for all the activeX controls. Then surf to a page that you know installs bookmarks. The prompt won't show you how it's done but it might point you in the right direction.
