I as on Amazon.com and saw a really cool "ad" for a baby sale. It looks like it opens an embeded window, shows the text, waits a few seconds, then "floats" over to the right hand side of the page. How is it done? I looked like a great way to send a site message without having a pop up window.

*might have to refresh to get the ad

They are just using layers and javascript to have it move on the page. If you view source you will see the code in the javascript code block at the top. I know a lot of users that hate this technique.

hahah ok, so maybe I am the only one who thought it was cool. I have a personal site and was looking for a cool and different way to have site announcements. Any ideas?

Westat, some people think clever layered ads are cool, other find them annoying. My suggestion: try out the technique, but be sure it isn't overly obnoxious, i.e., have an obvious close button, make the ad a reasonable size and duration, etc. I've encountered some of these ads that blot out most of the screen and can't be closed - a real pain!
