HTML Editors

What are you using?

Wanted to take a "poll" of what people are using as HTML editors. I have dreamweaver but not sure I am sold on it. I know CNET has tons to download and try but not sure what works best. I would like a full solution one, that has various scripting and language support. Templates and snippets are helpful too.

Looking forward to seeing what you say.

I use Coldfusion studio, but my work provides it.

At home I use HTML-kit. It's free. Not the best but it does the job.

I use Dreamweaver, and am completely happy with it. You would have a pretty hard time convincing me to use anything else ;)

I use UltraEdit-32, which is just an excellent general-purpose editor.

Thanks, I used to use evrsoft, but they never came out with version 3. The older downloads are not available.

HomeSite 5.0 in conjunction with Dreamweaver MX. DWMX is good for quick layouts or if you have a lot of text editing to do, but it doesn't seem to manage system resources well. And despite the fact that it is supposed to represent a merging of the DW and HomeSite traditions, or maybe because of it, I find the interface inconsistent and difficult to learn (e.g. can't create automatic hyperlinks by dragging and dropping documents, don't have enough control over customizing keystrokes and snippets).

I like the UE's built in FTP, highlight per code type function, and simplistic design.

I use EditPlus 2.11.

It has syntax highlighting for HTML, CSS, PHP, ASP, Perl, C/C++, Java, JavaScript and VBScript. Includes built in preview panel. And even spell checker.

I've used several editors in my life and find this one to be the best for my needs.

I'd say Dreamweaver, but I'm starting to become disenchanted with it. I've just switched to a mac and have thus lost all my platform-specific software, as well, so I may be making a switch to something cheaper. I'm pleased to see a vote for BBEdit in here, though I think I'm going to have to brush up my HTML coding a bit before I can use it.
If only, if only they made HomeSite for a Mac. They don't, though.
I used HomeSite forever and loved it. Especially how the preview window would do JavaScript. Dreamweaver is *almost* the next best thing but has a few flaws / bugs / shortfalls that have killed my buzz.
Must check out some alternatives. I just love having an editor complete the tags for me (like HomeSite), and BBEdit doesn't. *shrug*
We'll see.

As previously stated, editplus is the best text editor.

It has tabbed file viewing so you can easily switch back and forth from your external CSS file and the HTML document.

Some people like wysiwyg editors because you can produce lots of pages very quickly. But I found by making a simple php script, I can put the code for the layout in one file, read in the content for all the pages from another file, and have all the pages created for me in pure HTML in seconds.

dreamweavermx is the main tool but nothing in the end will beat editpad, textpad, & emacs.

Best darned editor around, whether I'm doing HTML, Perl, PHP, C, or the odd compiled binary ;) (yes, I've done it.)

I feared that I was the only emacs user on WebmasterWorld :( Use NTEmacs on Win with a hacked html-mode.el. Then put the results through the nifty GTML preprocessor. Validate final output with HTML-Tidy.
