Hi!

My client has asked me to look into how he can protect his logo from being copied off his website. I am not sure you can even do this, but he swears that he's tried to right-click on logos before, and gets a message that "This logo is copywrite protected" and it won't let you copy it.

Is that right? How would you go about doing it? Is it HTML?

This was has been covered a few times here.

The right click effectively does give the message but if you play a two finger shuffle it cancels it.

Why would someone copy a corporate logo? they are protected by copyright anyway.

There are javascripts that disable right click and serve up an alert box -- that's what he ran into. However, that approach doesn't really stop anything because the graphic is already in the user's cache and is not a problem to access. Or the user can just disable javascript.

The nature of the web is such that a person MUST have the file on their computer in order for it to be displayed in the first place. So the right click thing is a bit of silliness. However, if your client insists, you can find a script easily enough by searching Google on "disable right click".

But something he should consider -- disabling a right click often bothers people who are using the site legitimately. There are other reasons for a right click besides copying an image.
