Trouble with my shared host?

I have 3 sites on shared hosting and have not had any trouble. I valdiate my pages with W3C after uploading or making any changes.
Something is now preventing my pages to valdiated. I am having no trouble pulling my pages up in any browser and I have had no complaints from users. I’m still getting email and the sendmail forms are all working fine.
This is the error I get….

“I got the following unexpected response when trying to retrieve <http://www.******.com/>:
500 Can't connect to www.******.com:80 (Bad hostname
'www.******.com')
Please make sure you have entered the URI correctly. “

Does anyone suspect what has happened? They told me that they would look into it. I would like some opinions so I can judge their response. Thanks

Hi jbinbpt,

The only input I can give you is that a 500 error is related to a server-side process or response. If your using server-side scripting it could be that but I think it's more of a configuration on the server.

Are you using a .htaccess file to block remote page requests?

Thanks for the input.
No changes to .htaccess recently. Also this is happening on all three sites hosted by them.

They may have remote requests turned off on their server to save bandwidth. I'd check with them.

Sorry for newbie question, but would that prevent spidering?

Depends, spiders generally actually come to the site and grab the listings, if you just drag the content without going to the actual site then you dont.

Its wierd and I dont fully understand but it can be done.

Firstly, you could try using the WDG validator to see whether the problem lies just with the W3C one:

[htmlhelp.com...]

The particular error you are seeing is a DNS error - in other words, the W3C validator looks up your domain name, and it gets a result saying that your domain does not exist. The "500" error code is nothing to do with your site. So... think about some of these issues which could explain things:

1) You have changed the DNS or bought the domain name very recently (last 5 days). If true, just wait a few days for the DNS to propagate, and you'll be OK.

2) There is a corrupted DNS entry somewhere which the W3C validator is using. Nothing much you can do here but wait until the entry is updated.

3) You have renewed your domain name, haven't you?! It could have expired but still work for you, just not for the validator.

Thanks for the heads up on that. I have no problems there.

I'll see what the host says...

I appreciate the help.
