MS O-Look HTML Email slow to open

I have Microsoft Outlook 98 (8.5.5104.6) that I use with
WIN98. Whenever I get a HTML encoded email , it takes a real long
time for the email to open. Sometimes more than 30 seconds
or so. However the same version that we use at work, works
fine. Someone suggested this may be a virus. On a side note, opening
internet explorer or "my computer" also takes a real long time.

Any ideas?

Many html emails don't have the images embedded. The <img> tags refer to a file on some server. Hence the images load when you open the email. If you are on a dial-up at home, and a fast connection at work, this behaviour is understandable.

Of course, it could also be differences in your PC specs, version of windows, mail client,...
