Can't get my host's cgi freebies to work

I have a cgi question. My cpanel hosted site offers some basic cgi things like clock, counter etc; after setting options for the counter, I click preview-looks ok-then I click the selection to see the HTML-if I then just copy and paste the HTML into a file, it doesn't work for the counter-are there other or different steps required?

There might be another step needed, but there is no general answer on this. If you feel you've followed their printed instructions and it's not working, you should probably contact tech support at your host. They may have changed something and not updated their instruction page.
