Spidering files and Macromedia Contribute

How does using Macromedia affect Googlebot

I noticed this in the new Google Guidelines:

* If your company buys a content management system, make sure that the system can export your content so that search engine spiders can crawl your site.

Wondering if anyone knows if using Macromedia Contribute affects the spiders- particularly Googlebot.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com], georgina23.

That's an excellent question. I plan on downloading the trial very soon, but my plate's too full right now for experimenting.

I hope someone has taken a look - I'd love a report.

Contribute works on a principle based on Dreamweaver Templates. The designer creates the template, specifying editable regions as normal.

The designer then runs Contribute and specifies the files which the client can and cannot edit. S/he can then send a config file to the client which tell Contribute this. The client uses Contribute to edit their pages, based on the rules set out by the designer (ie the page editable regions and which files they can modify).

On the question of spiderability, Contribute creates flat files, so it's up to the designer/developer to ensure that the page is formated for optimum spiderability. So I don't think that it has any impact on that at all.

It's a nice, affordable little package - nothing too fancy at all. My one concern is that Contributes GUI for the client is very similar to Dreamweaver and I would feel that this could be quite a daunting interface for non-tech users. Other than that it's a nice package and I definitely would give it the thumbs up.

Thanks for the info. I did a little training with a client and they got it right away- at least for text and picture changes which is all they wanted to be able to do.
