Hope this is the correct forum...

I want to display music notation (not tablature) in a professional manner on my homepage. Do I need special software for that? If so, what do you recommend?

As far as I know, the only way to display musical notation is either in PDF format or image files. I use the latter at my site.

Music notation software (there are lots to choose from) create a file which can be imported into a graphics program and resized, cropped, optimized etc, then uploaded to your image directory and used in the HTML of the page mark-up. I also have scanned music, and followed that same process.

.GIF files work well since music is usually black and white. However, if you wish to offer sheet music downloads, the PDF format is the way to go.

check sticky mail for software referral

I manage a site which sells sheet music, and we show samples of the music online. The sample of the music is shown in GIF format and the downloadable copy is in PDF.

We also include a realAudio file so the browser can hear the music as well.
