I need to remove Micromedia Flash from IE 6.0 to check a routine that that tests for the presence of Flash and what version. Is there a way other than deleting the flash.ocx file. Not sure that will be a valid test.

Here is Macromedia's advice but it includes deleting the ocx.

You could always try renaming the flash.ocx (if you are removing Macromedia Flash Player 6) or swflash.ocx (if you are removing Macromedia Flash Player 5 or earlier). I don't know if it works, but it is worth a try.

You could always use Netscape to test with. In The Help menu of Netscape there is an About Plugins option, which will show you all installed plugins, and more importantly their location.

You could then just move the Flash pluigin out of the plugins folder and do you testing, moving it back in when you are finished.

This is what I do:

click tools, internet options, on the general tab click settings then view objects, right click on shochwave flash and remove.

If your script fails goto:
[macromedia.com...]
to reinstall your plug-in

Thanks to all for the great suggestions.

Script must be bad.

What I do, instead of testing for the plug-in with a script (can't find one that really works) is to create a small flash movie with a get_url action.
This way if they have flash, they will be redirected to your flash page, if they don't, they will remain on the same page which can have instructions on getting the plug-in or a link to an optional page.

This works best for me!

Get the Flash Uninstaller:

Who knew there was one?! It's buried at the Macromedia website on a FAQs page. Get it here:

[macromedia.com...]

Cheers:)
