Hi! I'm a developer trying to do graphic design. Eeek! Anyway, I need to create an image (574 X 177) of people working at a computer. I've got something already, and I had to stretch it a bit. I also want to make it look a little high-tech. I've put a little blue pattern over to the right side, and it's just not working... Can somebody take a look and let me know what would look good on the right for a high-tech effect: <snip> please review posting TOS </snip>
THANKS!

Hello Newnewbie,

What makes images and layout work is partly subjective, but good basic design principles will always play a major factor. One word: BALANCE.

Balance can be used to create associations, establish "feeling" and even draw focus.

Imagine if you will, a highly detailed. full color jpeg image positioned top-left (or top-right) and offset by simple mono or duo-toned .gif gridlines or shapes. Used with restraint, you can actually add emphasis to your jpeg image and help create a "feel" for the page all at the same time.

Just one of the many ways to approach the issue... hope it gives some food for thought. :)

Oh, cool! Are you talking about a dutone gif with scan lines? That sounds pretty high-tech looking...

Yes... something to that effect; the best part is the additional image file size can be very small. You might even be able to work it in as a background image, depending on your design. The main thing is you want to keep focus on your primary image and accentuate it, not compete with it.
