Printing Table Backgrounds

Can you make a browser do this?

Hi

I am trying to get the background of a table to print, but with no luck. Does anyone know if you can do this?

Thanks

Hmmm... not sure that was very clear. I'll have another go.

I've got a page containing a table that needs to be printed.

Because it essentially a graphic product, the table background is a white gif with a nice rounded-corner border.

In the table itself is text, which fits inside the border.

When I print the page, only the tect prints, and not the background image, ruining the effect.

Can I make the background image print?

Cheers

In Internet Explorer, go to...

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Printing > Check the box Print background colors and images.

Hello Chrome Yellow!

Pageoneresults nailed the IE solution, with Opera you just go to FILE/PRINT OPTIONS where you can choose to pring the page background, headers and footers, scale print to: 20%-400% and set page margins.

Mozilla (NS6/7?) offers even more options: FILE/PAGE SETUP - a tabbed window will open with numerous settings available.

Hi there papabaer. Thanks, and to you to pageoneresults. So the only way to do it is to change the settings in your own browser?

The aforementioned document is part of a product, so I can't ask each customer to change their settings (probably should have mentioned this!)

I guess I'm looking at a workaround, perhaps laying out the page(s) differently?

If it is an actual application using IE to print reports then it is possible to switch the registry key before and after printing, otherwise I believe you need an alternative solution.

Hi Olias

It's actually an ebook application using Explorer to print. This registry thingy sounds hard? Is it?

I actually had the same problem the other day, but I wanted the cell background colors to print rather than a graphic. I tried the above solution, but no go. Would not do it in FrontPage either.

Hi axacta

This is a bit tricky for me to check as I don't have access to a printer at the moment.

Are you saying that changing this setting doesn't actually allow printing of table backgrounds?

Does it just cause the page background to print?

CromeYellow,

There wasn't a page background, so I don't know about that, but as far as the table was concerned, only the table lines and text printed - the cell background colors would not.
