Browser Won't Display Graphic from C Drive

...but it works from webhost site.

This is a continuation of my post Very Novice Question but I've got it narrowed down... why my graphics aren't showing up when I display a webpage from my C drive. I thought it was an addressing problem.

If I load Internet Explorer, this displays fine:

"http://caloriesperhour.com/graphics/new_h21w32.gif"

but this fails. I looks like it tries to display the .gif with Paint. ???

"C:\Websites\cph\graphics\new_h21w32.gif"

So I believe the problem is with my browser displaying a .gif from my C drive, not with addressing the .gif.

You should be able to just navigate to your gif by chosing file > open (or somthing similar)

Open up Windows Explorer, click on Tools then Folder Options, click on File Types, scroll down and select GIF, click Change, choose Internet Explorer, then click OK.

That should force GIF files to load with Internet Explorer.

I think I just need a new PC. I'm running Windows 95 and can't upgrade (long story).

I don't have Tools/Folder Options but got there with View/Options/File Types. The problem is that there is no GIF to select. Very curious.

I clicked on New File Type and entered Associated Extension .gif but when I click on OK I get the message "The extension .gif is already in use by file type PictureIt! Picture. Choose another extension."

But when I scroll through all of the Registered File Types (where I couldn't find .gif to select it) I don't see either Opens with: PictureIt! Picture or Extension gif.

I can work on my webpages without the few graphics I use displaying so I think I'll just give up.
