Testing Sites behind a firewall with AOL

We develop our sites on a seperate server behing a firewall and then migrate to the production boxes.

How can we test our sites while they are still on the test server behind a firewall ?
Currently we log onto AOL and try to access one of the pages on the test server, noting the IP of the user. We then "punch a hole" for that IP through the firewall. It's a rather cumbersome process.

Is there some way we can set up a third level domain live dev.something.com and them use some sort of a proxy or cacheing server ?

Thanks !

Hello MrSpeed,

Welcome to WebmasterWorld!

You might try doing a site search (link is located on the upper left of the page) for "firewall", also, our Website Technology forum might be a good resource for you as well.
