Today I found a user agent of "Netscape 8" in my logs. I have not heard that netscape has come out with V8 yet - any ideas?

Or, most likely an Alpha version of Netscape 8.

You know, I had NN6 in my logs over a year before the first beta was released for download on their website ..

Probably not likely to be an alpha version of Netscape 8, since Netscape never advertises itself in USER_AGENT string as "Netscape" - it always says "Mozilla", and even NN6 logs as Mozila/5.

NN6 does say Netscape6 in it's UA though, doesn't it? At the end?

I knew I have seen this before so I checked the logs and it was just listed as Mozilla/8.0 Only seen it twice and that was over a year ago. Both times from the same place in Canada.

NN6 does say Netscape6 in it's UA though, doesn't it? At the end?

This is what we get:

"Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0; en-US; rv:0.9.2) Gecko/20010726 Netscape6/6.1"

Well, the NN6 Alpha showed itself as NN6 (it actually even said Mozilla/6)

Anyway ..

Found two more Mozilla/8.0 in yesterdays logs, this time not from Canada. Made only two requests for the h/p. The ip goes to a Malaysia se.

202.160.235.114
jenny.catcha.com/

Both times in the same second, this also appeared: www.catcha.com.my/cgi-bin/redirectcapture.cgi?url=http://www.oursite.com/ which is what we see when we mouse over the serp listings. The ip for this referrer is:

203.106.26.65
netsec.kdu.edu.my

The ua for this one was "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows 98)" and looks like a real user as they also requested css and image files.
