The page is here [st-anns-hospice.org.uk...]
(sorry too long for my profile)

The page is just an example using the text menu links and the css file - just to remove any other factors from the equation.

On my clients PC, some of the smaller text is curtailed, and ends with the ">" symbol.

e.g. "day car>"
instead of "day care"

I have checked using different dialups & different browsers, cleared the cache etc but I can't replicate the clients problem.

My client has a number of networked PCs, all of which see the same problem, so my theory is that the problem is somewhere at their end, but I'd appreciate any feedback on what you guys see when you check it.

thanks

Hi

renders OK for me (IE5 and NN47 and opera 6)

Although the text is rather small in NN47 1024x768 but no unexpected errors in text

hope this helps

Thanks Dazz

Yeah, I agree, way too small on NN4.7

Out of interest, I tried loads of different sizes and fonts but they still see the problem - weird - must be their end.

No probs
Win98;IE5.5;1024x768

Have you actually seen the p[roblem on their PCs? Are they having any other "problems"? It really is a wierd one, I cannot think of anything that would only affect the last letter of a link. Let us know when you find the answer.

Thanks Everyone

Woz - yeah I saw it when I was with them.

I checked the html code and the characters were missing in the html code - most bizzare.

It really suggested a cache problem of sorts at their ISP, so I put a new version of the page up - the one you all viewed in fact - and the same problem occured.

Baffling.

Going to e-mail the page to them and let them view it locally - that should narrow it down somewhat

Solved it.

Can't understands why this works, but..

Original text was '- day care'
Replaced it with '* day care'

Problem gone.

Something at their end didn't like the leading '-'

Thanks again guys

How utterly bizarre... Any chance you could chat with their network guys and find out what it was? I'd love to know!

It seems like it might be something in the firewall, as though it was "editing" what it interpreted as an attempt to sneak code "behind the curtain," but I've never heard of anything like it...

I think it must be a firewall issue.

They are also blocking PNG graphics (thanks Guys, now I have to change all my PNGs to GIFs :()

I am seeing their techie guys on Friday, so should bottom it out then.

I like good mystery:)
