Morning people,

This has been annoying me for about a couple of weeks now, I'm sure many of you have noticed it also? If you have the latest SP2 Windows Updates you will have noticed it. Yes, that little annoying box in Internet Explorer that seems to stop you interacting with Flash menus, embedded media players etc etc. "click here to activate this control..." pops up with a border around the said element. I HAVE FOUND A SOLUTION FOR THIS :)

Late last night I was working on my own personal DJ website, which happens to have a Flash menu, and decided to solve this annoying doubling of clicks needed to do something.

It appears that all this is because Microsoft ignored a patent held by Eolas to do with embedded objects in web pages. They've now been told to change this, so are forcing alterations to our browsers upon us through Windows Updates. This new ActiveX control behaviour is also going to be part and parcel of IE7.

It's such a shame that it's going to take ages for majority of websites to change as it's down to the webmaster to make changes, not the creators of the browser. I hope this post goes someway to accelerating that...

Here's a recent front page thread which adresses the problem with links to the official solution:
