I was wondering if anyone knew what is the best/max page width for a 1200x800 browser setting, without having the horizontal scroll bar.

Thanks for the help.

I'm confused by your post. Horizontal scrollbars appear when the width of a page (be it window size, resolution, or the combination of both) goes -BELOW- a minimal measurement.

For most sites design for 800x600 with a dynamic layout. If your traffic consists of Web/MSNTV subscribers then you should design for 512x384 though I've only ever seen 1 out of tens of thousands use that service.

sorry for the misunderstanding.

I am working on layout for 1200x800 browsers. And am using fixed layout, so was wondering that should I set the page width to?

Hum.. 1024x768 seems to be more popular than 1200 settings.. So I guess I will set the width to 950 to meet 1024.

Thanks for the help.

Both 800×600 and 1024×768 are more common than anything else.

If your intended audience for the page is known to use 1200 by 800, and you are only interested in serving them, declare it that way.

If your intended audience is the web in general then your width is 100% viewable, fluid to automatically scale to whatever the browser is currently using. Otherwise, choose a fixed width that will display in (egads! There are still some out there!) 640 by 480 to make sure you miss nobody. That's extreme, of course, the most common "low res" monitors are 800 by 600.

And like the other comments expressed, what are you trying to display, and why the 1200 spec?

Sounds like a kiosk display.

One the directory project that I am working, we are 'ahead' of schedule in designing part. So was thinking of 'maybe' setting up multiple layouts that users can choose from option menu within their profile.

The default layout is going to be for 800x600 settings which will be center aligned on the screen.

Both 800×600 and 1024×768 are more common than anything else.

On our sites 800 x 600 is 3rd, with 1024 1st and 1280 2nd and rising. A couple of months ago 800 was 2nd, so more and more are moving to wider screens.

Our 800x600 percentage now is around 12%.
