Is having both a main and index page a problem?

hi

Does haveing a index page and a main html page affect you listing on google do they confuse the spiders, and some pages have a pr ranking and the home page does not thanks for your help

Do you mean two pages, one called index.html (or similar) and the other main.html? If so, they will be considered as two separate pages.

It is important no be consistent with your internal links with regards to your default index page, as if you mix up links to example.com/ and example.com/index.html you may encounter "canonical" issues where the spider does not correctly ascertain the correlation between the two.
