been researching this topic here a bit, this post seems to be one of the more informative:

my boss wants to send a newsletter to about 2500 people quarterly. we have done this in the past but i have no access to the stats.
the newsletter we sent was in HTML--it had one image on top followed by H tags and P tags. the last bit was the unsubscribe opt-out feature. total page weight was around 15k.
we would now like to make the newsletter more visually appealing. i plan on having one top image followed by a two column table. the table will basically be H tags and P tags with the addition of two images. the opt-out feature will remain. total page weight will be about 25k.
how much will the two extra images and the extra TD effect the SPAM ratings?
the guy who creates our existing newsletter says it will drastically effect the SPAM reports/blocks--but then he doesn't want to lose this account.
basically, how much worse will mine be?(i'll be using valid code, in-line styles, etc)
ideally a link to the newsletter on the website would be my option, but its not my call.
If your more complex email still remains not too heavy and the images are called from a server and not sent as attachments, it shouldn't be too different from the original. However it is important nevertheless to keep the design as simple as possible due to the number of variables as listed in your referenced thread.
