Trouble With Internet Explorer

I had installed Firefox newest version, didn't like it, and uninstalled it to go back to IE 6. Now, when I go to a web page...I have to hit the reload button anywhere from 1 to 13 times before the page loads! I have checked my security settings, checked for viruses or spyware...I have done everything that I can think of, but I cannot change it. Anybody know how to fix this?

Strange
When you uninstalled did you unfortunately answer yes to something like

If this is a recent problem (less than three days old)
Try to go back to a restore point before the initial install or at least prior to the uninstall

No, I didn't receive any message about shared files.This problem has come up in the last 2 days, so I did a system restore back to 3 weeks ago, and yet the problem remains. The Microsoft website has a troubleshooting article about the "page cannot be displayed" problem, but it involves AOL, which I do not use. It seems to be improving only slightly, now I only have to reload 2-4 times - but this is getting aggravating! I tried to uninstall IE6 to re-install it, but it keeps telling me that another program is using it and denying me access. I tried to re-install over it, but it says the version that I am using is newer than the installation version, and again refuses to let me update. I went to the Microsoft website to redownload IE, but it is no longer available in their downloads(probably because of IE7 Beta).

Unless the problem appeared immediately after FF was uninstalled, it is likely to be a red herring.

This sounds like some sort of caching issue to me. I suggest you
1) clear the IE cache
2) check your system clock (not likely but easy to do)
3) if possible, change proxy server and/or revert to a (different) dialup connection for testing.
4) Try Opera and see if the problem persists.

IE is way too much embedded in the Wins OS
You should be happy that you were not allowed to uninstall
Your system at this time will be down for good!

Kaled has a good suggestion install another browser and make it your default
Don’t forget cleaning temps, be sure you remember your auto loging PW (if using any) and by the same token get rid of cookies.

Are you on a wireless network?
if so verify that it works fine
go to run
type: command
enter
type: ipconfig
enter and read results:
If the first three digits of your ip start by 169
it shows connection problems
and most likely the served pages come from your cache and not from a direct internet access.

My IP address starts 196, so that is not a problem. I am not on dial-up, I am on satellite Internet...and the system shows fine and ready to go. The problem started right after the FireFox uninstall (on 2 different computers). IE is having difficulty pulling up pages, and the pages it does pull up has a lot of image placeholders instead of the actual images and banners. I can get the pages to eventually load, after 14 or more attempts. I keep plugging away trying to stop this problem, but it doesn't seem to want to go away.

Just out of curiosity I'd reinstall FF and see if that fixes IE.

I just re-installed FireFox, and IE is still acting up. The bad thing is...now FF is acting up as well! I am having to click on each link about 10 times before it finally "takes" and starts pulling up the new page. Otherwise, the existing page just sits there (no "page cannot be displayed" message in FF). I wonder if this was caused by a "plugin" for FF? I installed a couple of plugins (local weather, etc.) that was available...I wonder if that is the problem? I wouldn't know about how to fix it if these plugins were not deleted during the uninstall process.

Been browsing a while now on FF, and it seems to be straightening up a bit. Will try IE for a while now, to see if it is clearing up. I may have to stay with FF to be able to browse.

Still sounds like an ISP/caching problem to me. If you are in the UK I can give you a phone number for an accountless dialup service. My guess is that with a different connection, it will work fine.

Also, my suggestion to try Opera still stands.

A big thank you to everybody :-) , I finally found the culprit! It was a plugin that I installed for FireFox. Once I uninstalled the plugins, then uninstalled Firefox, IE behaved normally again. Now I am surfing again with no problems.
