Hello,

I have a unique counter script which uses cookies. Is there any data on how many peeps turn cookies off?

Thanks in advance!

Up to nearly 20% according to one survey...

  • Four-Fold Increase in Third-Party Cookie Rejection Rates [webtrends.com]

But a single figure is as meaningless as asking what proportion of customers speak Italian. That'll vary between 0% and 100% depending on the country and market and product.

You need to run some tests on your visitors, get a feel for what they are doing.

Me, I block most cookies, and flush them all at the end of a session.....If a site wants to rent space on my hard drive over night: my rates are reasonable, but not zero.

    Welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com] complete_n00b!

The number of users blocking third-party cookies is rising rapidly as tighter browser security restrictions become more widespread. The other related problem is that users are deleting cookies more frequently, often with automated tools such as anti-spyware and similar cleanup programs.

Personally, I use a Firefox extension called CookieCuller to delete all but a handful of protected cookies (currently four, two of which are for my own sites) at the press of a button. I use it at least once a day.

I think that over the long term you should find an alternative method of user tracking if you want to give consistent, accurate results.

    Hi All WebmasterWorld,

What alternative methods of user tracking, are available? For example, for tracking user visits, users login/notlogin, last visit, and so on...?

    Kind regards
