Never made a site using html before

I've never made a site using HTML before, actually I've really never made a real site. Should I find an effective website builder that incorporates WYSIWYG with HTML or pay someone to get it started, it shouldn't be too hard to get tyhe template and get it started.

If you're just starting out then I would suggest using the HTML composer from Mozilla. Download the Mozilla Suite...

Using a visual editor though is not something a professional will do if you get highly involved with your code and want total control. You're welcome to view the code on my site as it's readable and I personally edit every page.

The Mozilla Composer is out of date. Use nVu [nvu.com] which is based off the same codebase but standalone and more recent.

If you're just designing a website for personal use or a for your hobby or something, a WYSIWYG code editor should be fine. If you're looking into becoming a web designer as a job or income source, you should learn to use raw HTML. It's not that hard, once you get into it, though it's probably more than you'll want to get started with if you're just going to design one or two simple sites.

Do yourself a favor: learn the code. It's really REALLY easy to get enough HTML under your belt in one evening to create a page. All you need is notepad (to start.) Then five years from now when you run into a problem, you'll know what to do. IMO WYSIWYG editors build a dependency like any other crutch or addiction, and when you're cornered you're often helpless.

Yep, until you learn html you will only go as far as the program goes, which usually is frustratingly not far.

Also your code will be a mess is you rely on something like MSword or publisher to make a site.

I have a beginner manual that I use, if you would to learn, 2 hours will see you well on your way to making your own page by hand.

I also have found w3schools.com an informative site and worth looking into. There are also numerous, free, software downloads available to help you learn html code, just a matter of preference which you choose.
I'm also learning html and all it's tags; what they do, etc. It's a wise choice to decide to learn the code. Good luck!
