When I try and go on IE it says Dns error or cannot find server but when I go and type in a URL and hit enter a box pops up and says "Microsoft Internet Explorer cannot find search page" and other online programs don't work it just says cannot connect to internet

Hi wrulon and welcome to WebmasterWorld!

That sounds like an internet connectivity problem. The DNS error page is on your local machine, but when you use the search it tries to connect to a Microsoft site.

1) Always keep another browser available. Firefox is a good choice but Opera has it advantages too.
2) In this case, check your proxy settings. It could be an ISP issue in which case you will need to set up a proxy to work around it. Alternatively, your existing proxy server (if any) may be knackered, in which case, opt for a direct connection (no proxy).
If you currently have a direct connection, speak to your ISP - they should be able to instruct you on setting up a proxy.

Have you, by any chance, chosen "work offline" in IE recently?
