I was wondering if there was a way to target a print button, ie, im making a print button in a site I have that I want to be able to, when clicked, print a word doc i have locally on my harddrive. If anyone could help that would be cool.
Thanks-
Jerry

Hi fleedoggy,

That is not very easy. First, browsers and the languages that we use for webpages are not designed to access the clients machine for security reasons.

However, if this is for an intranet or for your own personal machine only then there are ways. Using ActiveX for example. If this is for a website, though, then even considering this will bring you face to face with a lot of security problems!

Thanks,

To be more pacific, I am actually going to have a flash movie that is going to auto exec on a disc so when a person puts in the cd the movie will start immediately. Then there will be a section in the movie that has different mileage intervals and when the end user clicks on a mileage, a standard html pop up displaying a picture of the recommended automobile services for the mileage clicked will appear. Now in the browser it is just a jpeg of the screen shot of the actual word file. If you try to print the jpeg from the browser it is not exactly crystal clear as if you were to print the the word doc itself. So what I am trying to do is put a print button that will, when clicked, print the word document which is in another file on the cd. Any ideas would be great!

Thank you again for your help,
Jerry

If you're doing this via a CD's auto run, you might look around for a third party autoplay application. I know that Mediachance's Multimedia Builder is very nice. You might be able to force the word document to load then they can print it. But remember that the document is normally printed by its parent program. Meaning that if the user doesn't have word, they can't print it anyhow. :)
