As of a few hours ago Direct Hit bit the dust with a new look Teoma search taking over.

Looks like they are taking all of their resources and putting the forces together to compete with the mighty warrior Google.

Personally, I'm glad they are gone! For some unknown reason, I could never get my site listed on Direct Hit. I have good rankings on Teoma ... so looking forward to what is in store. Anything is better than being frozen out!

direct hit still comes up on msn for 10 most popular, any ideas when that might change?

The new layout looks GREAT! I also love the fact that "Sponsored Results" aren't on the first page of results returned; only PURE EDITORIAL Teoma results.

Let the competition begin!!

Just did a search via search.msn.com and they are still using "most popular" site function and it's working fine, but with a new look.

From the looks of the results ( unless they change something) it's gonna be a cake walk. They are using links but it doesn't appear link text has much to do with it....just as long as the site is in the incestual little group Teoma has identified as related.

I wish them well...we need more competition in the "game".

Just went to: "Learn how Teoma works" and "About Teoma / Press Room" and both links are not operable.

Is anyone else seeing at least ten spaces between results on the SERPS. Its annoying, but I like the new look a lot!

The search results were not displayed like that before when I went to it.

It had 3 results from overture @ the top, then the results following under it.

To the right was keywords to redefine your search, and under that was recommended stuff.

It seems a bit buggy on highly specific terms. I did one search which came up with 5 result pages...the first page had only a link at the top! for the next set of pages (not very usable). Then the 2nd and third pages worked fine, the 4th and 5th however returned me to the first page...odd. And I tried another search at which point opera tried to download a file of type asp (wrong headers being sent apparently). Still, an interesting idea. Its great to see that they practically give you a list of the sites you need to get your link on!

Full revamp of Teoma interface too. Rather Google inspired design :)

What was in the predictions for 2002 about direct hit?

Looks like askjeeves SERPS are identical to the new teoma SERPs? Perhaps this is only news to me.

The new look looks nice -- but yes, I'm getting a lot of spaces between entries on the SERPs (both with Opera and IE).

It seems buggy -- clicking >> or 3 to get the third page on some results takes me back to page 1.

I've compared 15 benchmark phrases, One site has shifted one place -- looks to me like the new look has come out on the old database. One change at a time is a sensible rollout strategy. But is it what we were expecting?

DH technology will continue to exist, and be used by partners. The only thing that's going away is the directhit.com site.

May possibly be the aspect of AJ, that will be marketed to large organisations looking for intranet search solutions, as well as supplying search engines, very similar to Ink !

JustTrying - I am seeing sponsored results at the top of the first page of SERPS...

Good to see Teoma is now live & kicking.

"Direct Hit will still be used by the Direct Hit partners. Just the site is closing". That is direct from Paul Gardi - I asked 3 times to make sure.
