My site does not come up in Ask/Teoma

Despite being around a long time and high ranking for other engines

I recently was looking at Ask Jeeves to see how we rank for some of our keyword combos and they didn't appear at all. I then put my domain in there and all that came up were a bunch of a messageboards and websites that link to us, and not our actual site. Before you say give it some time, our site has been around for around 5 years now and is a PR7 on Google which means it's not some small startup outfit with no incoming links. I can't find any of our pages indexed in Ask, only pages that link to us. Any idea what can cause something so strange? I'm unfamiliar with Ask/Teoma, but I gather that if I PFI then I'm guaranteed to be included. Does that mean they'll spider the 1000's of pages on my site and include them as well? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

the fact that your site has been around for 5 years, means realistically that it should be listed in AJ, was it ever in DirectHit.com?

My feelings is that its tripped out the spam detectors.

Regarding the PFI, i would be a little concerned about throwing money in to get included, when there may be another problem.

Why not try the base index page via PFI to see if there are any probs, give 48 hours+, then check the domain if its there then you know your good, if its not then it maybe worth contacting ask jeeves for a Q and A session about why its not included.

Ewww. That could be your problem. AJ considers link relationships as part of it's algo. Make sure your inbounds and outbounds are relevant. I wouldn't throw money at them until you get that straightened out.

It's hard to stop people on messageboards from linking to us. Google doesn't even crawl them so that's never been an issue with them, but I gather other engines do. The site doesn't come up in DirectHit.com either. I think I'll try the PFI for the index page. At the very worst case scenario I'd like us to pop up for our own name :) Thanks.

Its a probing move, and will show if you've got penalties or the site has been unlucky, but its worth switching on the lights before stressing and spending money on possibilities.
