Emeryville, Calif.-based Jeeves Monday says it has also hired the majority of the engineering team that built its software. The company says it plans on using Octopus' customer relation technology for its Jeeves Solutions' JeevesOne platform.

it sounds like want to compete with Inktomi's Enterprise search which is used for Intranet and corporate site searches.

Is there more money in the corporate site search solutions than in providing search results to public search engines?

Much more money in it. There just aren't any cost effect easy-to-use powerful off-the-shelf search solutions that can handle enterprise level sites. Once you get into 50k+ pages, suddenly the price of search sky rockets.
