Redirects

I did a search on google yesterday under url redirection and there were a lot of free url redirect services that will give you a page on their server with a popup . Some claim that they are well liked by search engines. I did check a few of them and in google it seemed that there were pages listed for those domains. Assuming this is an alternative to doorway pages I have a few questions:

1) It asks if you want the url hidden or not (the url that's the destination page). If you hide it then whatever you click to will keep their companies url in the url location browser. Will this affect getting paid by affiliate programs? Will you be properly tracked? (I wasn't planning on having it redirect right to the affiliate url , but instead go to one of my own pages with links to the affiliate program.

2) If the pages aren't accepted by search engines, can that damage the destination pages? I don't want to have anything happen to the pages I already have indexed.

3)Can you get a good ranking (assuming this idea is plausible at all) just by entering title, description and keywords because that is all their form allows.

Thanks and don't get too technical in the reply, okay?

Debbie,

I personally would not use a service like that for optimizing, mostly I think they cater to those that want to fix a URL that looks sloppy, but here goes:

1) your affiliate links should be ok, find a page using their service and hover over the links on the page and take note of what URL is displayed at the bottom of your browser window. This will tell you if they are redirecting or not.

2)The pages could be dropped by the search engines if they are redirecting from their URL to yours. I would not use them for pages already indexed, especially if they rank anywhere decent i.e. you are getting qualified traffic from them.

3)Probably not, meta description, and keywords don't count for as much anymore as they once did. Pages like this could do well at times, especially if you can enter text without using meta tags at all, but there are too many variables in a service like url redirection to say. In general for optimizing this is not ideal.

Hope that helps.
