Anyway...onto my topic.
My company sells blue widgets. While I was whipping up some content today, I accidentally typed "blue wdigets". I hopped over to overture to check out the search count for "blue wdigets" and found that there were a respectable amount of searches, enough to merit targeting the term.
If I were to cloak the "blue wdigets" term within my content when the spiders come crawling, is there is a high likelihood of being penalized?
If you're in a highly competitive market, it's quite likely a competitor will report you and you will enjoy a penalty.
Most major SEs now suggest spelling corrections as part of their algo so the volume of "misspelling traffic" has declined substantially. For me, the risk just doesn't justify the reward.
I rank well for the proper spelling, but many of my customers aren't, shall I say, the sharpest tools in the shed.
The market doesn't have a large competitive web presence,I'm more worried about a bot sending a different user agent type and seeing the one word discrepancy and issuing a penalty based on that.
