I am planning to do affilate tracking by referrer. Unfortunately, it does not catch all users. So does anybody know, how many % have turned off their referrer?
Thanks, globay

I don't need to know exact figures, but what is your guess on how many % of the visitors coming from site A could not traced back?

I'd say a good 10% have the HTTP_REFERER header stripped out of their requests by a firewall. I hate that.

On my site, 4% of 5594 hits had bad referers in July, and 5% of 4918 hits in August.
I hate that too, but I won't worry until it goes over 8%.

Missing 10% of referers sounds about right... you certainly shouldn't rely on it for affiliate tracking. You could use it as a double check though.
Normally the affiliate ID (or any ID unique to the affiliate) is passed in GET request to a page. The page could either be the destination page itself or a page which does a redirect to the destination page.
