We have spent time and money on website development and the 'view source' facility is almost like leaving a key under the mat.
We don't want anyone to steal our source code... naturally, if we hide it - or cloak it, Google frown upon it.
Surely protecting your investment is 'white' cloaking, nothing sinister just basic survival.
On the other hand, if we were to cloak our site for no other reason than to trick the search engines, then this is 'black' cloaking.
Does the 'view source' facility have any other reason than looking at someone else's skeleton?
Should Google & Co review their policy in 'white' cloaking?
The fact remains you will get banned If you are caught cloaking. So use it at their own risk. White cloaking and Black cloaking are good concepts but things are much more complicated. HTH
Yep, I'm aware of the present consequences, one of my points was:

Is that doable in the first place? How can you hide source code from whoever you want to hide it from?
By cloaking. But it would be very difficult job not to get caught. :)
How about you, as an individual (mil2k)?, although interesting as other's opinions they are, what are your thoughts?
My thoughts are be aware of all technologies (good or bad) and take informed decisions with your client's best interest in your mind. HTH :)
