I'm a long time SEO marketer with a question that I've never really come across before from a unique business partnership my company is entering into, and I want the opinions of other SEO pro's to help me out.
Long story short, my company is entering a deal with a regional company that will have a subdomain, white-label version of our site located at [whitelabel.example.com.
...] This company will provide TV advertising in their DMA in return for a revenue split on ad and ecommerce revenue.
We already have a national SEO presence and a few hundred thousand indexed and ranked pages, and my question is with what we're doing with the region. We use IP location since zip code is important in our industry, and in the case that a user enters from an IP in the partner DMA my tech team is proposing we do a 302 redirect from http://www.example.com to [whitelabel.example.com.
My concern is that we have rankings nationally, and in this DMA we will be performing a redirect on indexed and ranked keyword phrases. Now, the subdomain will be disallowed to bots, but I'm worried that this could prove detrimental to our national keyword rankings because in this DMA we're doing something that may seem a bit sneaky.
Thoughts or further questions?
