Google Penguin - other ways to test site for webspam?

So, today I ran a report which took dates of Google Penguin updates against traffic patterns on my site. What I noticed was when Google ran Penguin 4, my traffic which was somewhat improving just took a nose dive!

Everything I've read about Penguin 4 from Matt and Google says it was released to stop webspam.

O.K., that's great. Still, when I got into Google Webmaster Tools my account says, about my site, "No manual webspam actions found."/ So, if there is no webspam actions, why was I punished for webspam?

Is there some underlying web spam that GWT doesn't recognize but Penguin hates? How can I search this out? How can I find the source of this web spam and eliminate it?

Really. I am also offended by this unpublished trick of Google. If our site has got penalized or took as a spammy by updates, then webmaster tool should show in manual actions. but they don't.
