Has wordpress.com been hacked?

Starting yesterday I am getting a constant stream of emails saying I have "recently signed up to follow some post". I have made a few comments on major sites a long time ago and don't really use this wordpress.com account much.

Is there some major hack at wordpress.com or is somebody messing with me?

There is no chance for major hacking of Wordpress.com.

Just see the email address domain from where you receive emails.

May be Wordpress website or account has been hacked in Future but if use encrypted password then sure no one can hacked your password.And every week you can change your password.
