If Teoma Crawls - why pair for inclusion

If Teoma crawls the internet like that of Google, then why are ecommerce people paying to submit to Teoma where your site may already be in due to the teoma bot crawling and indexing pages

It's still a relatively shallow database, on my SERP (a resort name, using quotes) Teoma only has 22.5K returns, Google is 107K.

So, since there a relatively fewer results on Teoma, this provides a means and a need for people to submit to teoma? If Teoma is crawling what is the need for paying?

You do have a point IMHO.

This has been my strategy with Inktomi for a long time. If I sit on my hands and wait, then eventually they will come sniffing. If they don't, sure I suffer.... but so do they, as their database becomes stale and their product (search) consequently deteriorates.

Ditto for Teoma. They have a relatively small DB. If they want to increase it and have credibility they will HAVE to crawl... and therefore pick my sites (and everyone elses) up. If they don’t, they won’t retain new customers (searchers) for long.

A question of patience to a degree.

My guess, and it's strictly a guess, is that the database has been populated just enough to provide critical mass so that there's something in the SERP for the public. Future spidering may be set at a higher indexing threshold to pull in authority and hub sites as "content." That leaves stand-alone commercial sites as the revenue target.

I believe it will happen over time when the sites will get spydered but for the quickie you wanna pay the few bucks.

Interesting find on Teoma. I looked up 2 search phrases I re-emphasized on my website. My website wasn't on Teoma 2 weeks ago. After checking tonight, my site is #2 and #3 under the two extremely competitive phrases I checked. The listings reflect the SEO restructuring I have just recently done. I still have my cash in my Levi's too......

Just an assumption, but perhaps when they reach an ideal DB size they can differentiate between non-profit and commercial sites and continue to freely spider the non-profit ones, for the sake of content?

Just for comparison, Im loving my free submission into the Yahoo directory within 2 days of submission (for a non-profit site)

My key phrase has 25,000/month according to the overture tool. With good ranking can i even expect any decent traffic from Teoma?
