OAKLAND, Calif., May 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ask Jeeves, Inc., a leading provider of information retrieval technologies, brands and Internet advertising services, today announced the acquisition of Excite Italia B.V., the operator of Excite Europe, a network of pan-European portal properties, from Tiscali, S.p.A. Ask Jeeves acquired the U.S.-operated Excite.com portal in March 2004.
It cost them 6.1 million euros apparently. I know that they don't show up in my logs much, but it is another property for Jeeves to use.

Wasn't this move forecasted some time ago; all 2nd tier SEs would have to join to make it to tier 1?

Sounds like that would be a case of the whole being less than the sum of its parts

One more small piece of a large puzzle falls into place. This is hardly gonna make any significant difference, but Ask show their intention to stay and survive and grow in a market where there are much bigger players.

No traffic at all from Excite on my two european sites despite several top 10 placements in SERPs. Sounds like a bargain at 6 mn.

I'm of the same view as the rest of you.
Another Feather in the cap and certainly a massive name of the past, but will have little effect to the way things are in the SE map.
